Police say a 45-year-old teacher at Heart Lake Secondary School in Brampton is facing additional charges in a sexual assault investigation.
Peel Regional Police said Douglas Dale, of Brampton, was arrested on Tuesday after investigators were made aware of an alleged sexual relationship involving a 16-year-old student at the high school.
Dale was charged with a single count of sexual exploitation and held for a bail hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
On Friday, Peel police said Dale was charged with additional charges of sexual assault and sexual exploitation involving a 17-year-old former student of the high school.
He is scheduled to appear in a Brampton court on July 10.
Carla Pereira, a spokesperson for the Peel District School Board, said Dale has been “assigned to home” as of Monday pending the outcome of the investigation.
Dale, a math teacher, has been working at Heart Lake since 1999.
In a message to students and their families posted on the school’s website, Principal Peter Koehnen said staff are fully co-operating with the investigation.
“I know that it’s important to you, as parents, to feel confident that students are well cared for and protected while they are at school,” he said.
“I take this responsibility seriously — we have policies and clear procedures to make sure students learn in a safe, secure environment.”
Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Special Victims Unit at 905-453-2121, ext. 3460 or Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
