Man facing charges after hitting pedestrian in downtown Halifax, leaving scene

A 28-year-old woman was sent to hospital on Friday night after being hit on a crosswalk in downtown Halifax.

Halifax Regional Police responded to a report that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian at 7 p.m. at the intersection of Brunswick St. and Rainnie Drive.

Investigators found the woman had been struck in a crosswalk and was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The vehicle involved in the incident fled the scene and was stopped minutes later on Sackville St. and Brunswick St. by patrol members, police said.

A 28-year-old man was taken into custody and has since been released.

He is facing charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm. The man is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date.
