WINNIPEG – The Lord Selkirk Royals and the St. Mary’s Academy Flames both celebrated championship victories on Monday at the University of Manitoba’s Investors Group Athletic Centre.

The top seeded Royals won the AAAA Boys Volleyball Provincial Championship as they defeated the third seeded Miles Macdonell Buckeyes three sets to one in the final. The Royals won the first two sets. The Buckeyes kept their hopes alive by winning the third set but the Royals dominated the fourth set to win the title. The final set scores were 25-17, 25-19, 22-25, and 25-8.

It’s the second boys volleyball crown in the last four seasons for the school and their seventh title overall. The Royals lost only one league game all season long.

Royals left side Owen Schwartz was the tournament’s most valuable player.

It’s the second straight year the Buckeyes have lost the boys championship game.
