Trial date set for former Calgary bus driver accused of sexual misconduct

A former City of Calgary bus driver accused of sexual misconduct involving a girl will stand trial next year.

Paul Rene Desmarais is charged with sexual assault, sexual interference with a child under 16 and sexual contact with a youth by a person in authority.

He was ordered to stand trial on all three charges Sept. 8, 2016.

The alleged incident happened nearly 10 years ago when Desmarais was 53.

The victim reported the assaults to police in November 2014.

Desmarais was arrested in February 2015.

It’s alleged he befriended a 14-year-old girl who was a regular on his route and “groomed” her to get her alone on the buses and lure her to his home.

The trial is scheduled to begin June 19, 2017.
