Solving Montreal’s traffic-related issues
With the return to work and school, traffic in the city has reached a crippling level, one rarely seen – even in this cone-weary town.
Construction on Montreal-area bridges and highways has slowed down trips into the city and once you’ve made it there, you simply can’t move.
Global Montreal’s Billy Shields recently conducted an experiment to see how long it took to drive on typical streets downtown. It turns out it took one of our news trucks 40 minutes to cover less than 6 km during non-peak hours in the city of Montreal. That’s the equivalent of nine kilometres per hour.
Senior anchor Jamie Orchard spoke with Transport 2000 president, François Pepin, to get some insight into what can be done to ease congestion in the city.
Recovering from addiction
For the second straight year people are gathering this weekend for Montreal Recovery Day, a cross-country event that started in 2012.
The event aims not only to start a conversation but also end the stigma about recovering from addiction.
In cities across the country, recovering addicts will be standing up in unison to help drive progress in the community.
Senior anchor Jamie Orchard sat down with organisers Patricia Ann Goldman and Kaitlin Sexton to discuss the event.
‘Dancing with the Seniors’
Senior anchor Jamie Orchard is getting ready to host a fun event in Pointe-Claire next Friday, Sept. 23.
It’s called Dancing with the Seniors and is a Dancing with the Stars-type event that aims to raise money for an organisation called Wish of a Lifetime.
Wish of a Lifetime Canada grants wishes to seniors, whether it’s meeting a pop star like Celine Dion or travelling to to Niagara Falls –and no dream is out of reach.

To help keep those dreams alive, Chartwell Le Wellesely in Pointe-Claire is holding the dance extravaganza at the Table 09 restaurant next Friday.
Event organizers, Viviane Meslage and Lorraine Loubier dropped by Focus Montreal to talk about the fundraiser that has seniors strapping on their dance shoes.
