KELOWNA – A former court services deputy sheriff has been charged with child sex crimes alleged to have happened in Kelowna and Kamloops.
Kevin Johnston is accused of three counts of communicating with a person believed to be underage for the purpose of facilitating a sexual offence and one count of invitation to sexual touching.
The offences are alleged to have occurred August 8-27 at or near Kelowna and Kamloops.
“On September 1, 2016, the Kelowna RCMP sought the assistance of the Criminal Justice Branch in dealing with an investigation into the online activities of Mr. Johnston,” states a news release from the CJB.

The charges were approved by a Special Prosecutor appointed by the Assistant Deputy Attorney General.

“Mr. Johnston was an employee of the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General. The appointment of a Special Prosecutor is intended to avoid any potential for real or perceived improper influence in the administration of criminal justice,’ says the news release.
Johnston makes his first court appearance October 20th.
He is no longer employed with the BC Public Service.
