Cameras were rolling when a local news team in New Mexico spotted a man wanted by police in connection with an alleged sexual assault.

Reporter Danielle Todesco and her cameraman Dennis Quintana from KOB 4 News say they spotted Ian McCann by chance Sunday in downtown Albuquerque, NM.

In video shot by Quintana and released by KOB 4, Todesco can be heard updating police as to McCann’s movements as he headed towards the Alvarado Transportation Center.

The team tries to maintain a safe distance but are eventually spotted by McCann, who then tried to lose his pursuers.

“By the time he reached 2nd [Street] and Iron [Avenue] he was in an all-out run,” Todesco said. “We didn’t get that on camera because we were back in our live truck chasing him until deputies could arrive.”

According to police, a security guard at an Albequerque homeless shelter broke up a fight behind a dumpster between McCann and a woman at the shelter  last Friday.

According to the criminal complaint, the woman told police McCann had forced himself on her in the same location, concealed from the building’s security cameras, on multiple occasions.

According to court documents, McCann told investigators that the Bible gave him the right to have sex with whoever he wanted.

McCann was initially released and the charges dropped after a judge discovered the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputy who arrested him didn’t sign the proper court documents.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s was able to secure a new warrant for McCann’s arrest Sunday – the same day Todesco happened to spot McCann wandering the city’s downtown.

McCann faces several charges including four counts of criminal sexual penetration.
