File / Global News

A southeastern Ontario high school was evacuated after police say a smoke grenade was ignited in a cafeteria filled with students.

Durham Regional police responded to Brooklin High School, in the Carnwith Drive West area of Brooklin, Ont., at around 11:30 a.m. Monday — just as students were sitting down to lunch.

Firefighters arrived on scene and determined a device had been ignited in the school’s cafeteria that caused a large cloud of orange smoke.
