Dramatic cellphone video out of Golden Gate City, Florida shows firefighters and pedestrians working frantically to save a baby locked inside a hot car.

Local resident Sharon Thoemke recorded the video on her cellphone in a public parking lot Tuesday after she noticed a crowd of people gathered around one of the cars.

“I saw the fire truck and I saw firemen and some other people surrounding the car,” Thoemke told NBC-2 News.

The reason for the crowd? An 8-month-old infant, locked inside the car on a hot day.

“There was no breeze, it was sunny,” Thoemke said.

Lt. Jesus Padilla with Greater Naples Fire Rescue tells NBC-2 that the mother in this case will not be facing any charges over what police believe was a genuine accident.

“She put the child in and closed the door and realized she had left the keys in and the car was locked,” Padilla said. “As soon as we got there, that’s her there, she was telling us to break the window, break the window.”

Firefighters say the decision to break the window was made after a couple of minutes, once all other options have been exhausted.

“After a few minutes of being on scene there [the child] started…you could tell she was getting a little sweaty and stuff so that’s when we decided to take out a window and get the child out that way,” Padilla said.

The child was then given a cool pack by firefighters as a precaution and is reported to be in good condition following the rescue.
