QUEBEC CITY – The Quebec Liberal caucus gathered Monday evening for a special, previously unplanned caucus meeting away from the National Assembly.

The meeting at Manoir Montmorency outside Quebec City was closed to everyone except elected MNAs.

It’s been a tough session for the Liberal government, beginning with a number of corruption allegations and the arrest of former deputy premier Nathalie Normandeau in March.

Quebec treasury board president Sam Hamad was also forced to step down from cabinet after more corruption allegations.

The party was recently embroiled in controversy surrounding revelations from former transport minister Robert Poëti of “irregularities” in the ministry.

Premier Philippe Couillard told media heading into the caucus meeting it was never the intention for the meeting to be “secret.”

Other MNAs called the meeting an opportunity for “team-bonding.”
