It was pop culture frenzy at the BMO Centre Saturday for the third and biggest day of the Comic Expo in Calgary.

You may have noticed some interesting characters wandering around the city headed to the largest convention of its kind in the country.

The superhero of the comic book world even made an appearance. Legendary comic book creator Stan Lee made good on his promise to visit Calgary after cancelling a scheduled appearance last year.

Although he’s 93, he’s still a regular on the Comic Con circuit.

“They started sprouting up all over and I love them, I kept going to as many as I could,” Lee said.

Fans lined up paying big bucks to meet and greet their heroes.

There were big names like Tom Felton, one of Harry Potter’s cohorts, Gotham’s supervillain Lord Taylor, Mad TV’s Phil Lamarr and from Game of Thrones – Finn Jones.

Even the stars say they’re gushing over celeb sightings said Lea Delaria from Orange is the New Black.

“We fan-girled like crazy over William Shatner and we got selfies with him,” Delaria said.

For Saturday’s costume contest, attendees went all out.

“It’s amazing. You want to make memories as a family, right? And I think they’ll have these memories for a lifetime,” Natarie Lui said.

If you didn’t come prepared, the Lord of the Rings had a makeup artist for you.

“Isla has decided to have some hobbit ears done. Lovely little ears,” makeup artist Warren Dion Smith said.

The 2016 Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo wraps up at 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 1.
