UPDATE – Team responds after fight at Osoyoos hockey game between drunken parents

A 37-year-old man died on April 2 after an ATV crash northwest of Viceroy, Sask. File / Global News

UPDATE – In a statement posted to Facebook, the BC Interior Stars organization says the “very unfortunate” incident was not witnessed by any of the players who were in their dressing rooms.

The team claims one father from the Stars and three from the Bruins were involved, saying the wife of one of those men was inadvertently stuck while trying to intervene.

The statement says there is no excuse for this type of behaviour in youth hockey and the organization is strongly committed to taking appropriate measures to avoid further such incidents.

OSOYOOS – A drunken brawl between parents of 10-year-old hockey players left one woman with a broken nose and others with more minor injuries.

Osoyoos RCMP were called to the Sun Bowl Arena Saturday after the large fight broke out in the stands following a game between the New Western Bruins out of Langley and the BC Interior Stars encompassing players from several Okanagan communities.

Police say the parents were staying at a local resort and had been drinking throughout the day, requiring the resort to call in extra security.

Both groups of parents accuse each other of yelling insults prior to the fight breaking out.

Cpl. Jason Bayda says it’s unfortunate the children had to witness their parents act in such an immature way.
