RCMP in Alberta are searching for a man who was dressed up as Santa Claus while robbing a Stettler jewelry store on Christmas Eve.

Police said Wednesday a lone man in a typical Santa costume entered the Ware’s Jewelry store with a gun and demanded jewelry, including precious stones at about 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 24. Police didn’t specify the value of what was taken, but called it a “significant” amount of jewelry. No one was injured during the crime.

The suspect is described as between 5’11” and 6′ with blonde hair and “pock-faced.”

Police said they are still gathering surveillance footage from within the store, but released a photo of a black Hummer H2 SUV they believe the suspect used to flee the scene.

The Hummer was found abandoned on Dec. 28 in a residential area in Stettler. Police believe a second vehicle may have been used “in transporting the male from the abandoned Hummer H2.” That vehicle is described as an older model pick up truck; possibly a Chevrolet, extended cab or crew cab with chrome running boards, police said.
