CALGARY- The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating after an officer fired a weapon at suspects fleeing a scene in northeast Calgary.
Police were called to a home on Castleridge Crescent at around 5:45 a.m. Police said someone inside the house requested help, claiming two men were there, threatening to shoot one of the residents.
Witnesses told emergency crews the offenders left in a red Pontiac.
About fifteen minutes later, an officer located a vehicle matching that description and started following it.
Police said the officer, with five years’ experience, was waiting for backup to help stop the vehicle, when the driver suddenly slammed on his breaks and partially pulled into a driveway on Fallingworth Court N.E. Police said two men ran from the vehicle; one of them was holding a handgun.
The officer shot at the suspect, but the men continued to flee. Additional police flooded the area, and EMS were called to the scene.
Neither of the men have been located; it’s unknown if either were shot.

About half an hour after the incident, however, police received reports an SUV had been stolen about three blocks away on Falchurch Crescent N. E. Police said it’s unclear if the theft is related, but are asking the public to keep an eye out for a white Ford Escape with Alberta plate BNH9728 and “Johnson Controls” written across the side.
Police described the first suspect as a man in his late 20s, 5’8” tall, wearing baggy jeans and a blue and brown jacket. They said the second suspect is a man in his early 30’s, 5’8” tall, with a slim build and possibly wearing all black clothing.
Police believe the suspects are associated with the residents from the home where the 911 call originated. They do not, however, believe that the case is related to the ongoing gun violence seen in the area over the past several months.
Investigators are asking for anyone with information, including evidence indicating an injury occurred, to contact police at 403-266-1234.
Calgary police said in a statement, “the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been advised of this incident, however, the investigation remains with the Service’s Homicide Unit and Professional Standards Section as is protocol.”
