Two people died Thursday morning after a crash on Highway 2 near Ponoka, Alta.
RCMP said four people in their late 20s or early 30s from the Edmonton area were travelling southbound on Highway 2 around 10:30 a.m.
The vehicle crashed near Gee Road, about five kilometres south of Highway 53. Witnesses said the vehicle went off an overpass and landed on the roadway beneath. RCMP said the vehicle fell four metres after striking the underpass.
One male passenger was thrown from the car, but survived. He was transported to a nearby hospital along with the male driver of the car. Both were in serious condition and were later transferred to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, by both ground ambulance and STARS air ambulance.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. RCMP said roads were clear and dry at the time.
Officers couldn’t yet say whether the people involved were wearing seatbelts.
Investigators do not believe speed or alcohol were factors.
