Charges laid against pair in connection to recent Saskatoon robberies

SASKATOON – A 28-year-old man believed to be responsible for a series of armed robberies is now behind bars and facing charges. On Tuesday, police confirmed the man and a 23-year-old woman are facing charges laid by the general investigations section (GIS). This follows an investigation into recent armed robberies, a total of nine since Oct. 31.

According to police, the two were arrested at approximately 6 p.m. CT on Sunday at an apartment building in the 100-block of Avenue U South. The man, who was tracked by officers who believed he was a person of interest in at least five recent robberies was arrested, along with the woman, without incident.

What law enforcement found inside an apartment and vehicle after after search warrants were executed has led to even more charges. Investigators recovered a loaded sawed-off rifle, numerous drugs and pharmaceuticals.

Further charges against the man are expected once a forensic analysis is complete. Police say of the handful of armed robberies he is linked to were convenience stores.

The man will spend his days and nights in jail until his first court appearance on Nov. 16. He has been charged with one count of armed robbery and four firearm-related charges.

In addition to those five charges, the man is facing a number of drug-related charges including possession of cocaine and possession for the purpose of trafficking (methadone hydrochloride, dilaudid, hydromorphone, morphine, hydromorph contin, gabapentin, methamphetamine and fentanyl).

He was wanted on outstanding warrants, including being at large.

His alleged partner in crime also faces the same drug trafficking charges. She will make her first court appearance on Friday and faces three firearm-related charges and one count of public mischief.

GIS continues be on the lookout for a third known suspect they believe was an accomplice to the armed robberies. The investigation is ongoing.

On Monday, police confirmed a total of four people, two sets of two, had been taken into custody over the weekend and questioned. No armed robbery charges have been laid against the other pair.
