Giants down Blades 5-4 in OT

SASKATOON – Jakob Stukel scored 1:50 into overtime and Cody Porter made 39 saves as the Vancouver Giants edged the host Saskatoon Blades 5-4 on Sunday in Western Hockey League action. Carter Popoff, Dakota Odgers, Matt Barberis and and Ty Ronning also scored for the Giants (3-0-1) while Clayton Kirichenko and Dawson Holt each tacked on two assists.

Saskatoon’s Ryan Graham forced extra time when he beat Porter with just 39 seconds to play in regulation time.

Cameron Hebig led the Blades (1-0-3) offensively with a goal and two assists. Jake Kustra and Lukas MacKenzie had the other goals and Connor Gay, Nick Zajac and Brycen Martin added two helpers apiece.

Saskatoon’s Brock Hamm kicked out 32-of-37 shots in a losing cause.

Vancouver went 1 for 4 on the power play while the Blades scored twice on eight chances with the man advantage.
