KELOWNA — Changes are coming to the heart of downtown Kelowna as work begins on the new Westcorp hotel at the old Willow Inn site on Mill Street and Queensway.
Construction is expected to start next year, but in the meantime, test-piles will be screwed into the ground.
The developers chose this newer method of site preparation to limit the impact of nearby buildings, as screwing the piles rather than driving the piles into the ground is expected to reduce vibrations that may affect nearby buildings.
Westcorp Development Manangement expects the $65 million, 24-storey hotel to open its doors in March 2018.
Global Okanagan reporter Kelly Hayes is interviewing Westcorp Monday, and will have full details on our newscasts tonight.
