Moncton staff say preps underway for AC/DC

WATCH ABOVE: The City of Moncton is preparing the Magnetic Hill Stage for the biggest concert to hit Moncton in years, ACDC. Global’s Brion Robinson reports.

MONCTON, NB – The City of Moncton is hoping a successful AC/DC concert could bring more shows to Magnetic Hill in the coming years.

Venues manager Shane Porter said staff have been busy prepping the site for the show on September 5th.

“Every show you do here you want it to be a huge success because one show leads to another potentially,” he said, noting that could include weekend festivals.

The last time AC/DC played on Magnetic Hill, they attracted over 60,000 people. That was one of the city’s largest shows.

Since then, big names including U2 and Bruce Springsteen have played on the site. Springsteen’s show in 2012 was the last big concert on Magnetic Hill.

Jillian Somers, manager of marketing and event development, said many factors contributed to the three-year lull, including trying to work out schedules with event promoters and devoting resources to other large sporting events.

“There was a lot of prep in other venues throughout the city,” she said. “We’re just glad to be back.”

In the meantime, Codiac RCMP are encouraging people heading to the show to familiarize themselves with their transportation options.

“The drop off zone is right at the gate so there’s nothing easier or nothing better,” said Corporal Mike Gaudet of Codiac RCMP.
