Seven charged in Saskatoon standoff

SASKATOON – Seven people, most between the ages of 18 and 20, are facing charges following a standoff with Saskatoon police. It happened Wednesday in the Pleasant Hill neighbourhood.

Police say a member of the guns and gang unit spotted a man wanted on warrants enter and barricade the door of an Avenue O South residence just before 10:30 a.m.

Patrol officers, along with bike and canine units, established a perimeter while a warrant was obtained to enter the home.

Before getting the warrant, someone inside the home called police, stating an unknown number of people were being held hostage.

The standoff came to an end when the tactical support unit arrived around 3 p.m. and breached the door.

Ten people left the residence and were detained. Seven have now been charged:

  • An 18-year-old man is charged with public mischief and breach of undertaking;
  • An 18-year-old woman was arrested for breach of undertaking and outstanding warrants;
  • A 19-year-old man was arrested for breach of recognizance and numerous outstanding warrants;
  • A 19-year-old man is charged with impersonation, public Mischief, breach of recognizance and outstanding warrants;
  • A 20-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man were arrested on outstanding warrants; and
  • A 33-year-old man was arrested for two breach of recognizance and numerous outstanding warrants.

They are expected to appear in Saskatoon provincial court Thursday afternoon or a justice of the peace Thursday evening.
