He is facing charges of both accessing and possessing child porn, breach of trust, and fraud over $5,000.

Police chief Jennifer Evans says an Internal Affairs investigation began in April after the force received an unspecified complaint.

Evans says Wattier has been suspended with pay in accordance with the Police Services Act.

A brief bio on the Peel Region police website shows Wattier became a police officer in 1985 and that he has worked in a variety of units, including intelligence services, criminal investigations, special victim’s, audits and the major collision bureau.

“I take these allegations very seriously,” said Evans in a statement.

“As a police service there will be difficult days ahead but these allegations should not detract from the great work that is done on a daily basis by the other members of this police service.”
