WINNIPEG – If you’ve recently purchased chicken wings you may want to go check your fridge to see if they are part of recall in five Canadian provinces.
Safeway is recalling various store-packaged, cooked chicken wings.
The recall is over concerns the product may contain a toxin produced by Staphylococcus bacteria.
The chicken wings have been sold in Safeway stores across the country on dates before and including Aug. 14.

It’s believed they were sold in multiple locations across the country including Manitoba, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) said in a statement it is now investigating and is advising people not to consume the recalled products. The contaminated chicken may not look or smell off but should not be eaten,
This toxin is not easily destroyed at normal cooking temperatures.

Symptoms of this bacteria poisoning can include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping and fever. Some severe cases can include illness, headache, muscle cramping and changes in blood pressure and pulse rate.

Consumers should throw out the product or return it to the store where it was purchased. Individuals who are unsure if their products are affected should check with their retailer.
