Kelowna’s Knox Mountain closes to vehicles due to fire risk

Global News / File Photo

KELOWNA – The City of Kelowna has shut down a popular park to all vehicle traffic due to the extremely high fire hazard.

Effective Wednesday, Knox Mountain is closed to vehicles and only open to visitors on foot and on bikes.

“The entire park will remain open to the public on foot or on bike, but we are limiting access by vehicle as a preventative safety measure,” says Blair Stewart, the City of Kelowna’s Urban Forestry Supervisor. “While our wildfire fuel mitigation program has been successful, we need residents to consider preventative measures as well, especially those living near natural areas.”

The upper gate at the park has been closed since June 22.  On Wednesday, the city closed the lower gate.

The Knox Mountain Drive road closure will remain in effect until further notice.
