REGINA – An injury-plagued season continues for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The Green and White already had a dozen players on the injured list before Tristan Jackson, Seydou Junior Haidara and Rob Bagg all went down against the B.C. Lions on Friday night.

“Every time we plug one guy we lose another guy, every time we look at ‘hey, if we can get the roster like this next week we’ll move forward’ we never get that roster,” said a frustrated head coach Corey Chamblin after Friday’s 27-24 loss. “We are becoming masters of trying to plug things and make them work.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Bagg later tweeted that he was fine, but the other two seem destined for the injured list.

“I know for certain that Jackson had a sprain and he’ll be out. I don’t know the exact time. Haidara was another guy. It looks like he’ll be out for an extended period of time,” answered Chamblin when asked for an injury update.

The Riders’ injury list already includes franchise quarterback Darian Durant, all-star linebacker Shea Emry, Ryan Smith – who was the CFL’s leading receiver at the time of injury, and versatile defender Weldon Brown, who was lost for the season in Week Three.

“Our personnel changes are being made because of injury, not because of what we want, so we just have to be able to pay with what we have,” said Chamblin. “Guys who have been in utility roles for their career have to take the next step.”

Despite the continuous stream of players hitting the shelf, the team isn’t about to start making excuses for the 0-4 start.

“I don’t care who’s in that room; I’ve never cared who’s in that room,” proclaimed the head coach.

“We have to be able to play solid football, and winning football.”
