UPDATE: Charges have now been laid against an 18 year old Port Alberni woman, known to the victim, who has now been identified as 19-year-old Carlene Jack. The two knew each other.
The accused remains in custody, and is set to appear in court today. Her identity will not be released, pending first court appearance.
The other two people arrested in the early stages of this investigation have been released without further process. Investigators do not expect to lay additional charges at this time.

RCMP arrested three people following an incident that resulted in the death of woman in Port Alberni early Wednesday morning.
Police responded to a report of an altercation in the area of Bute Street and 5th Avenue at about 1 a.m. and upon arrival, found a woman in medical distress. The victim was taken to hospital and later died of her wounds.
The three people arrested in relation to the incident are currently in custody. Mounties said it appears to have been an altercation between a group of people known to each other and does not pose any risk to public safety.
The area around the crime scene at 5th and Bute will be blocked off for the immediate future as officers gather evidence.
Anyone who has information about the altercation is asked to contact the Port Alberni RCMP.
