TORONTO – Apple’s streaming music service arrives Tuesday to iPhone users with the release of the company’s latest mobile operating system iOS 8.4.
Users will be able to sign up for a three-month free trial of the long-awaited service once it launches, giving them unlimited access to the tens of millions of songs found in Apple’s iTunes library.
The iOS 8.4 update is expected to be available to Canadian users at 11 a.m. ET.
Apple will also launch its Beats 1 radio station Tuesday – its first broadcast will begin at 12 p.m. ET.

“Seeing Apple Music on stage at WWDC this month … it was hard not to feel like the last 20+ years was leading to this day,” Apple Music senior director and former Beats CEO Ian Rogers wrote in a blog post.
“Tuesday morning we’ll be unveiling the next chapter. Please make a note to upgrade to iOS 8.4 Tuesday, June 30th and listen to our first day of broadcasting.”
After the three-month free trial period, Apple Music will cost $10-per-month for individual accounts. Apple also has family memberships available that allow up to six people to have unlimited access to the service.

Beats 1, on the other hand, is a live 24/7 radio station hosted by DJs – including former BBC host Zane Lowe – that will be broadcast from Los Angeles, New York and London. This service will be free to users with an Apple ID.
Apple is also opening a new platform for artists that allows them to release to fans content such as lyrics to an upcoming song, behind-the-scenes video, or even new tracks. Dubbed “Connect,” users can open the feature through a tab on the Apple Music app, and can follow artists and access their feeds – but only subscribers will be able to view, save and like the content.
Android users will also be able to sign up for Apple Music – but those users will have to wait to get their hands on the service. The tech giant said it won’t be launching an Android app until the fall.
