CALGARY – A 22-year-old Canmore man is facing charges after he was caught speeding on the Bow Valley Parkway on Sunday.

RCMP say the man was clocked travelling 209 km/h on the scenic road between Banff and Lake Louise, which has a speed limit of 60 km/h.

The driver, who only had a learner’s license, is facing dangerous driving charges and numerous Traffic Safety Act offences.

A man from Quebec who was allegedly supervising the driver is facing similar charges.

“This level of speed is inherently dangerous in any circumstance and poses a substantial risk to all road users and wildlife on the Bow Valley Parkway,” said a news release from RCMP. “The Bow Valley Parkway is intended for people who wish to take a leisurely drive in nature in hopes enjoying the scenery or spotting a bear or other wildlife.”
