Police look for man who approached boy in Calgary backyard

CALGARY – Calgary police are asking for the public’s help after reports of a man approaching a young boy playing in a northeast backyard on Thursday morning.

Police were called to a home in the 300 block of 15 Avenue N.E. around 11:30 a.m. after the child’s mother heard a deep man’s voice in the backyard.

Police say when she looked out the window, she saw the suspect speaking to her son, and believed he was attempting to “coax him off the property.”

The boy’s mother took her son back inside and the man left the area before police could find him.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, approximately 5’10”, with brown hair and a scruffy grey beard. He has a heavy build and was wearing a black T-shirt.

Editor’s note: Police originally said in a release the home was in the 1700 block of 16 Avenue N.W., but revised the address to the 300 block of 15 Avenue N.E. just before 6:30 p.m.
