Court appearance for man charged in Saskatchewan school stabbing

SHELLBROOK, Sask. – A man charged with stabbing a teen girl at a Saskatchewan school will make a court appearance Tuesday. Michael Rudolph, 19, is charged with aggravated assault following the stabbing last Friday at W.P. Sandin Public School in Shellbrook.

He is also charged with carrying a weapon for the purpose of committing an offense.

Mounties were called to the school approximately 125 kilometres north of Saskatoon around 11:45 a.m. for a report of a stabbing.

Rudolph allegedly stabbed the girl, who is under the age of 18, while exiting a classroom. Both are students at the school.

She was taken to hospital for treatment of what were described as serious injuries. There is no word on her current condition and police say they will not be releasing any health updates.

Rudolph was located at a residence in the community around 1 p.m. and taken into custody.

He is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert provincial court Tuesday morning on the charges.

W.P. Sandin Public School and Shellbrook Elementary School were put in a hold and secure by Saskatchewan Rivers School Division for a short time as a precaution.
