Canadian tennis star Milos Raonic has withdrawn from his next ATP tournament after announcing he will need to undergo surgery to repair an injury.

The Thornhill, Ont. native said through his verified Twitter account on Saturday that he will miss the upcoming BNL d’Italia in Rome to correct a nerve issue in his right foot.

“I will be undergoing surgery to repair a nerve in my right foot,” Raonic tweeted. “I withdrew from Rome to be ready to compete as soon as possible.”

Raonic, who’s ranked No. 6 in the world, lost to third-ranked Andy Murray in straight sets at the Madrid Open on Friday in the quarter-finals of the clay-court tournament.

The event doctor diagnosed Raonic with a pinched nerve in his right foot after the match.
