HALIFAX – A Halifax Regional Police officer is facing two charges of assault after an investigation by the province’s Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT).

Cst. Jason Richard Murray voluntarily met with SiRT investigators on April 30, and was formally arrested.

Murray has been released on a promise to appear, and has been placed under several conditions, including a requirement he not contact the complainant or witnesses, does not possess a firearm, and abstains from the consumption of alcohol.

The investigation began on April 8, after Halifax Regional Police received a complaint about an alleged domestic assault involving an officer. The matter was immediately referred to SiRT.

As a result of that investigation, Cst. Murray was charged with two counts of assault. SiRT alleges one assault happened in October or November of 2013, and the second happened between April and July of 2014. Both involved a 44-year-old female complainant.
