Student protesters set up camp outside Montreal college

MONTREAL — Students committed to demonstrating their disapproval of Quebec’s austerity measures were not put off by the rain.

On Monday night, dozens of students pitched their tents on the grounds of CEGEP St. Laurent and on Tuesday, the protesters were still on-site.

Although the demonstrators did not have permission to set up the camp, school administrators were hoping to reach a mutual agreement.

The students are not on strike, but protesting against several issues, including government austerity.

CEGEP authorities did not ask for police intervention to remove the students from the campus grounds.
