SYDNEY, N.S. – It looks like thieves have gone offside with a load of unique hockey sweaters valued at nearly $4,000.
The jerseys were stolen from a merchandise kiosk for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles hockey team earlier this month.
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League franchise’s fan memorabilia kiosk at the Centre 200 arena was entered sometime between April 11 and April 15.
Nineteen game-worn sweaters, valued at $200 each, were stolen.
“Most of the jerseys would be ‘one of a kind’ with the player name, number and brand combination on them,” said Peter MacDonald, general manager of business operations for the Eagles.
The jerseys are all from previous seasons and had been for sale at the merchandise kiosk.
It appears the lock on a storage closet was forced to get at the sweaters, and the thieves used a number of tools to gain access.
Cape Breton Regional Police are investigating the theft and are appealing for help from the public.
Anyone with information about the sweaters is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
