3 Calgarians charged with kidnapping, forcible confinement after missing man found in trailer

CALGARY – RCMP have charged two men and one woman with kidnapping-related offences after a missing man was found in a travel trailer on a rural property.

Strathmore RCMP received a call on March 25 from a concerned member of the public about a man who’d gone missing. When the man was located on rural property just east of Calgary on Highway 1, RCMP determined he’d been held against his will for “a couple of days.”

RCMP Cpl. Sharon Franks told Global News the three suspects had known each other “for some time” and knew the missing man “for about a month” but hadn’t confirmed in what capacity.

A search of the property resulted in recovery of a stolen vehicle, firearms and other stolen items. RCMP continued to search the property Monday afternoon.

Twenty-eight-year-old David Timothy Law, 27-year-old Andrea Haert and 32-year-old Michael Warren Stoffels have been charged with forcible confinement, pointing a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and kidnapping with a firearm. RCMP say the suspects are all of no fixed address in Calgary, and have been remanded in custody.

RCMP believe there’s no risk to public as this was a targeted incident. The missing man was found in “good health,” said Franks.

The suspects are set to appear in Calgary Provincial Court on Tuesday.
