CALGARY – Police are hoping fingerprints left at an Airdrie school will help them identify the thieves who stole 100 iPads and six laptops last week.

Police were called to C.W. Perry School around 3:30 a.m. on March 20th for reports of a break and enter.

Investigators say the theft is a devastating blow to the school, as the iPad Minis and Macbook Air laptops that were taken are an important necessity for student learning.

Superintendent of Rocky View Schools Don Hoium said the iPads and Macbook laptops were used for instruction and didn’t contain any confidential information.

“The computers are set up such that when students are on them, any information that they would be using, would be stored on a server as opposed to the computer itself,” said Hoium.

Airdrie RCMP Constable Jason Curtis said there was very little damage to the school, and only the computers were taken.

“There was enough damage to get in and get out and collect the Macbooks, so we suspect that it wasn’t a random spontaneous crime,” said Curtis. “It was somebody who knew what they were looking for.”

Airdrie RCMP are investigating, with the help of the Calgary Fingerprint Identification Section.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Airdrie RCMP at 403-945-7267 or Crimestoppers.
