Police are investigating another attempted sexual assault on the UBC campus.

The attack happened at Totem park residence around 1 a.m. Wednesday morning.

University RCMP say they responded to a call of a man choking a woman in the lobby of the building.

Cpl. Brenda Winpenny with University RCMP told Global News they believe the suspect approached the woman and placed his arm around her neck to choke her. He then allegedly dragged her out of the building towards a bush area.

The man, who Winpenny says is a 27-year-old student at UBC, has now been located and arrested. The victim was able to get away and was not hurt.

He has been formally charged with attempted sexual assault and assaulting a police officer.

Winpenny says there is a publication ban on information regarding the identity of both the suspect and the victim.

Investigators don’t believe this is related to a string of attacks in 2013.

“It is alarming that an incident of this nature would happen on campus,” says Winpenny. “We would encourage anyone walking on campus later at night or in the early mornings to ensure they take proper precautions.”
