CALGARY – Shelly Jones broke down several times on the stand Tuesday as she testified in the first-degree murder trial of her daughter’s former fiancé, Kristopher “Tray” Guenther.

Jones’ testimony is being given in a voir dire, which means the judge must decide if the evidence will be admitted.

Jones described a rocky relationship between Guenther and her daughter, Lacey Jones-McKnight.

She told court the two had broken up several times leading up to October 25, 2012, the night her daughter was killed.

Jones said she dropped her daughter off at a mechanic’s shop to pick up her car that night, which was the last time she saw Lacey alive.

Jones told court she got a phone call from Lacey’s cell phone later that day, but it was Guenther on the line. The accused later arrived at Jones’ house.

“He handed me a knife,” said Jones. “He says, ‘I want you to kill me.'”

Jones told court she asked where her daughter was, and Guenther told her she was in his car.

Jones told court it was too dark to see anything out her window. She said Guenther took the knife back as he left the house.

“He said: ‘Your daughter is dead. I f—ing killed her.”
