Winter storm hampers driving conditions

REGINA – A winter storm is hammering southern Saskatchewan this weekend, making for extremely poor driving conditions.

RCMP were reporting multiple collisions and vehicles in the ditch across the province.

A semi-truck hit the ditch on Highway 11 near Lumsden, closing the highway for a few hours Saturday afternoon. RCMP also closed Highway 11 from Regina to Davidson due to the weather.

On Saturday afternoon, the province’s Highway Hotline was not recommending travel on all highways surrounding Regina.

As of 5:00 p.m., Regina police officers had responded to four crashes on Saturday, one involving injuries where a car crashed into a light pole on Albert Street.

While many people likely chose to stay home, the snow storm wasn’t deterring one Regina man from riding his bicycle. Michael Morgan said you just need to be prepared for the worst.

“I ride all winter, rain, snow, sleet, shining or cloudy. But this is probably the worst day we’ve had so far,” said Morgan while biking in Regina on Saturday.
