UPDATE: All advisories mentioned in this story have ended

SASKATOON – Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Moose Jaw and west-central Saskatchewan.

Current weather models are postulating that 10-15 centimetres of snow is possible in the warning region. The majority of the daylight hours Valentine’s Day is expected to consist of moderate to heavy snowfall.

The heaviest snow is expected between Saskatoon and Meadow Lake.

Snow will fall along the track of a low pressure system which will move into the province Saturday morning near Lloydminster and then track eastward toward Moose Jaw.

Current weather models are postulating that 10-15 centimetres of snow is possible in the warning region. Indications are that nearly the entirety of the daylight hours Saturday may consist of moderate to heavy snowfall.

Of major concern are the winds expected from the southeast at 30 gusting to 50 km/h during the duration of the snowfall, possibly reducing visibility on roads to near zero at times.

The remainder of the long weekend is looking much more settled with some snow possible overnight into Sunday morning followed by mostly cloudy skies with a chance of flurries into Family Day Monday.

Daytime highs are expected to remain in minus double digits Saturday and Monday with a warmer Sunday in mid-minus single digits.

Motorists planning to drive this long weekend are advised to use caution on roadways Saturday and check in with Saskatchewan Highway Hotline before heading out.
