A Saskatoon man is facing numerous charges after a wild police chase last week in Saskatchewan. The chase that started in Saskatoon ended near MacDowall when the truck broke down and the driver was arrested.

It began when Saskatoon police received a report around 5 p.m on Jan. 14 that a white GMC utility bucket truck had been stolen from behind the 100-block of 22nd Street East. Numerous attempts were made to stop the truck that was heading north, including the use of stop sticks, to no avail.

The truck continued north and police aborted the chase due to the large amount of traffic at the time and concern for public safety. Saskatoon police then contacted Rosthern RCMP to inform them of the stole truck heading their way.

Mounties set up a roadblock on Highway 11 about four kilometres south of Rosthern. Officers pulled over traffic to the right lane and blocked the left lane with a marked cruiser with its emergency lights activated.

The driver of the truck hit a private vehicle and an RCMP vehicle and continued north on the highway with two cruisers in pursuit.

He then crossed the centre ditch about five kilometres south of MacDowall and continued north in the southbound lanes of Highway 11. Multiple vehicles managed to avoid hitting the oncoming truck.

While that was occurring, Prince Albert RCMP set up a second roadblock near the south entrance to MacDowall to stop southbound traffic.

The truck swerved to avoid the roadblock and missed a Mountie in reflective gear, who had to run into the ditch to avoid being hit. The truck continued travelling north in the wrong lanes for several more kilometres before turning onto a grid road.

At that point, the truck stopped due to mechanical reasons and the driver was arrested.

Mounties say no one was injured during the chase and speeds never got over 110 km/h.

David Able Adams, 40, is facing nine Criminal Code charges:

  • dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
  • impaired operation of a motor vehicle;
  • refusing to provide a breath sample;
  • operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police;
  • possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000;
  • assault on a peace officer with a weapon causing bodily harm;
  • driving while disqualified/prohibited; and
  • two counts of failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

Adams made his first court appearance on Jan. 15. He is being held in custody until his next court appearance in Prince Albert court on Jan. 22.
