Stun baton seized by La Ronge, Sask. RCMP

LA RONGE, Sask. – A stun baton was seized by Saskatchewan RCMP officers after a youth was spotted carrying the weapon in La Ronge. Mounties became aware of the weapon after a robbery on Jan. 10.

Officers were called to a business around 7 p.m. after an employee said he was threatened with a weapon while delivering food and robbed of some cash. The suspect was arrested a short time later but the weapon was not recovered.

Around 1 a.m. on Jan. 11, a second youth was spotted carrying an item fitting the description of the weapon used in the robbery. Officers were threatened with the weapon when they approached the youth but he was taken into custody without incident.

Police seized an Omega Stun Baton from the teen. The weapon is 18-inches long and emits 150,000 volts.

He was charged with unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assaulting a police officer with a weapon and uttering threats.

The youth appeared in court on Jan.12 and pleaded guilty to two of the charges. He was give nine-months probation.

The youth charged in the robbery is facing five charges including unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, uttering threats and assault with a weapon. He has been released from custody and is scheduled to be back in court on April 23.
