According to officials, nearly half of the murders in 2014 began after street altercations that quickly turned deadly.

An annual report from Montreal police states thirteen of Montreal’s murders began as impromptu conflicts.
On the other hand, overall organized crime was down.

Four homicides were attributed to the mafia in 2014, a comparable difference to the 18 murders reported in 2013.
