CALGARY – A forgotten hotel in southeast Calgary has been given a second chance.

In the past 100 years, the Ogden hotel has seen its fair share of ups and downs.

Less than ten years ago the hotel was a place to avoid. The building faced demolition.

A local charity called the Victory Foundation recognized its potential, bought the hotel and begun renovations. Now it provides a temporary home to Calgarians in need.

“As we went along, [we] just took one project at a time to renovate. People started to see that there was an opportunity to make a difference,” said Tom Maxwell, of the Victory Foundation.

One of those Calgarians is Stephen Jones. He now lives in Victory Manner, located at the old Ogden Hotel.

“I was in a lot of troubles with alcohol, I had anxiety and depression and needed a place to stay that would support me,” he told Global News on Wednesday.

Tomorrow night the Victory Foundation is hosting a Christmas dinner. It’s a holiday feast for 350 of Victory Manor’s closest friends and strangers.

“we put the word out for volunteers and for anyone who is going to be alone during this time of year to join us for dinner on Christmas day,” said Maxwell.

“ Just seeing that smile on somebody’s face when they eat a warm home cooked meal and they tell you it’s good – that just brings the utmost joy to my day.”

There is still time to register for tomorrow night’s Christmas dinner.
