WATCH: A Vaughan man has been arrested and accused of orchestrating a mail fraud scheme. Mark Carcasole reports.
AURORA, Ont. – York Regional Police say a 35-year-old man is facing fraud charges in connection with an alleged mail diversion and use of fraudulent gift and credit cards.
Police say they were contacted in August by Canada Post investigators who alleged that mail was being diverted using online tools from its intended recipients to a post office box in Vaughan, north of Toronto.
They say it’s believed that a significant portion of the mail that was being delivered to the box contained credit cards.
It’s alleged that information obtained from the redirected mail was also being used to fraudulently apply for and obtain credit cards.
With assistance from Canada Post, police began an investigation to determine who was retrieving the mail from the box and a suspect was arrested last week at a residence in Vaughan.
Police say several credit cards in various names were found at the residence along with redirected mail, currency and a credit card reader/writer.
Prince Imalenowa is charged with fraudulently redirecting mail, defrauding the public under $5,000 and fraud over $5,000.
