EDMONTON – Wood Buffalo RCMP say a man was killed in a collision at the Canadian National Resource Limited Horizon site.

It happened around 8:50 a.m. Friday at the Fort McMurray oilsands site.

RCMP say a pickup truck collided with a large transport vehicle. The crash sparked a fire and a man, believed to have been inside the pickup, was killed.

The RCMP are not releasing his name until his family is notified.

A company spokeswoman says operations have been suspended in the site’s mining area.

Officials with the province’s Occupational Health and Safety unit are investigating. The RCMP is also investigating, along with the municipal traffic unit and the collision reconstructionist.
