HALIFAX – A Halifax Regional Police officer has been charged with impaired driving after single-vehicle crash in Dartmouth early Monday morning.
Const. Ryan William Morris, 23, was arrested after witnesses reported a car driving east on Prince Albert Road hit a power pole around 3:30 a.m. and the driver fled on foot.
He was located about 30 minutes later on Portland Street on the overpass to Highway 111.
The responding officer identified Morris as an off-duty police officer and noticed signs of impairment.
Morris, who has been with the police department for one year, faces charges of impaired driving and having a blood alcohol level that exceeds the legal limit. Police say additional charges could be laid.
He has been suspended pending the outcome of his case and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 23, 2014.
