3 people rushed to hospital after intentionally taking ‘date rape’ drug, GHB

Police are investigating the source of the drug, which was reported to be GHB (gamma hydroxybutyrate), a powerful, rapidly acting central nervous system depressant. RCMP Handout

VANCOUVER – Three people had to be taken to Lions Gate Hospital on Saturday night after intentionally ingesting GHB before going out for drinks.

GHB, commonly known as the ‘date rape’ drug, may make people feel relaxed, euphoric, or sleepy. It may also cause people to lose their inhibitions. Effects may be felt between 10 and 20 minutes.

North Vancouver RCMP say they, along with BC Ambulance and North Vancouver District Fire Department, responded to a report of a woman that had collapsed after having taken GHB. Staff at a North Vancouver bar had found the woman passed out in the bathroom.
