Find out which story Global Montreal’s viewers had the most to say about this week on Your Sunday Say:

It wasn’t just about the Hab’s victorious home opener and biting lady bugs this week.

Global News reported on a community devastated by their municipal government’s decision to tear apart one of its most cherished green spaces.

When Global’s Tim Sargeant visited the residential neighbourhood of Île-Perrot on Wednesday, he was greeted by bulldozers, chainsaws and furious residents who told him they can’t believe their beloved forest was being cut down to make way for a road.

“I know it’s just a road, some people say it’s just a road Cathy, it’s going through whether you like it or not and that’s basically what we were told at council meetings but still the reality of it hurts,” said Île-Perrot resident Cathy Vincent.

The story hit close to home for many of our viewers.

Global News received a lot of reaction on our social media pages, much of which echoed the concerns of Île-Perrot’s residents.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The question we have been asked the most is “how long will it take for condos to go up where the forest once stood?”

Marsha Howie: “It is wrong to cut down such beautiful old trees and it is wrong to essentially kill off the wildlife…progress should protect nature, but unfortunately Île-Perrot has decided to pave over this forest despite protests from citizens.”

Mary Alexander: “We, the original residents watched as all the ski trails, forests, birds, chipmunks were demolished…It was the country, and we loved it…It is not the country anymore.”

Catherine Vincent: “Seeing it here in pictures, hurts. Living it and seeing it live in front of me, devastating. Thanks Tim Sargeant for your continued interest.”
