A Nanaimo woman made an unpleasant discovery while out on a hike with her family in the area of South Wellington Monday afternoon.
Danica Stewart was shocked to find a rope strung at neck level across a popular trail.
The rope was tied to two large trees on the trail accessed from Beck Road adjacent to the Nanaimo River fish hatchery.
Stewart took the rope down and turned to social media to warn other trail users.
“It was pretty camouflaged given the colour choice and it could and is intended to cause some pretty major damage seeing as it was carefully raised to neck height,” said Stewart in her Facebook post.
She says her family has used the trail many times to access the river and it is the first time she has seen anything like this.
If you have information on this incident, you are asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or at www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com.
