The University of Lethbridge hosted another open house today, inviting the public to view plans for the “Destination Project”.
The construction project is a three-phase development that will add 35,000 square feet with a new academic/science building, new central utility plant and a revitalization of University Hall.
“The response has been a positive one, and people are very curious about this new building,” says VP Academic, Andrew Hakin.
Three months ago there were six possibilities for what the project would look like. Those have now been reduced to three: The Court, The Street and The Hub.
The final decision will be made by early December.
According to Hakin, the $300 million project is a huge step forward for the university, and all three options mark an important step on the path to the U of L’s long term future.
The planning will continue for the next 15 months, with construction scheduled to begin in Spring of 2016.
The next public open house is scheduled for this Thursday at 7 p.m. at the U of L Foster James Penny Building.
